Final Rorate Caeli Masses of Advent This Saturday

I n Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Saint Philip Church will have its last Rorate Caeli Mass of the Advent season on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 6:45 a.m. These Masses, offered only during Advent, are celebrated in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Traditionally they are celebrated at sunrise and are lit only by candlelight.

The Rorate Caeli Masses are also celebrated to help us prepare for Christmas. Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ, for whom we wait in joyful hope. The world is mired in the darkness of sorrow and sin, and Christ brings to us the light of hope and mercy. In this way the light of Christ "dawns" on the world every Christmas, and on our hearts and minds every day. For more information, see stphilipsparish.com/rorate-caeli

Take Note

"Christ in the City" Presentation Dec. 22 at 7:45pm in the Newman Room

St. Philip Parish welcomes Helen van Wijngaarden to speak about her experience with "Christ in the City" in Colorado. Helen attended Falls Church High School and grew up at St. Philip. After graduating from James Madison University, Helen is now spending a year in service. As we remember that the Holy Family was "homeless" on the night of Christ's birth, all are welcome to learn more about Helen's work.

One More "The Chosen" Watch Party Monday Night

We'll watch Episode 5 on Monday, Dec. 20, and then take a two-week break before reesuming on Monday, Jan. 10. We meet at 7:45pm in Hayden Hall to watch one episode and have a discussion led by Fr. Will. Refreshments are served. January dates are 10, 17, 24.

Men's Prayer Teams Forming

We are looking for men to spend an hour per month praying for our faith, for your family, and our St. Philip parish family. Working in teams of two or three, you would pick a day each month to come to the church to check in with your prayer brothers to say the rosary and pray for the needs of the parish. Imagine the blessings that will come to our parish from this group of men praying together over the month. We will be start during Advent and continue for one year. For more information, contact Kris Martini or Andrew Webb or sign up here.

Arlington Diocese Begins Multi-Year Anniversary Celebration

November 2024 will mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Arlington-our Golden Jubilee. Beginning with Advent 2021, the next two years are designated as preparatory years for the Jubilee, followed by the Golden Jubilee year itself. Each year will have a different theme, rooted in the foundational truths of the Catholic Faith, with a steadfast focus on evangelization and works of mercy. A list of events and other Golden Jubilee information is available at arlingtondiocese.org/jublieehome
